Ein gleichmäßig erhöhter Pulsschlag, der Blick fällt aufs Standbild einer anonymen, gedrängten Menschenmenge, kurz darauf setzt der Sprecher ein: „Ich steige um. Der Zug ist voll. Man riecht das Problem sofort…“. Der olfaktorische Trigger sitzt, man ist mittendrin. Wohl jeder hat dieses Alltagsszenario aus eigener Erfahrung vor Augen, umso gebannter folgt man dem Geschehen. Verständigung ist unmöglich, der verwahrloste Mann reagiert nicht. „Es“, wie die Figur durchgehend tituliert wird, ist „das Problem“. Was tut man, wenn gesellschaftlicher Konsens aussetzt, wenn ignorieren, bitten, sich beschweren nicht helfen? Am Ende wird „das Problem“ von Polizisten abgeführt, der Protagonist, so denkt man, kann sich sein Mitleid wieder leisten, nun hat er den Vierertisch für sich und, so der Schlusssatz, (1) Problem weniger. — Jens Asthoff

A steady increase in the pulse rate, the gaze falls on the still image of an anonymous, crammed crowd, shortly afterwards the speaker begins: “I’m changing trains. The train is full. You can smell the problem immediately...”. The olfactory trigger is right on, you are in the middle of it. Probably everyone has this everyday scenario before their eyes from their own experience, so they follow the events all the more spellbound. Communication is impossible, the neglected man does not react. “It”, as the character is dubbed throughout, is “the problem”. What does one do when social consensus is suspended, when ignoring, pleading, complaining do not help? At the end, “the problem” is taken away by policemen, the protagonist, one thinks, can afford to feel sorry for himself again, now he has the table for four to himself and, according to the final sentence, “one problem less”. — Jens Asthoff
